This guide will teach Total War WARHAMMER III players how to unlock the camera with unlimited height and no environmental collision. The problem with the game’s default battle camera is that it is a bit clunky when you move your units in maps with terrain objects like bridges. The camera collides with the bridge and moves above it instead of going under.
You can tweak the game files to unlock the debug camera that lets you “clip” through objects like bridges and buildings. This workaround is only available for the PC version of Total War WARHAMMER III.
STEP 1: Launch the Run command
- Use the shortcut Windows+R to open the Run window.
- Type %appdata% in the textbox and press ENTER.
STEP 2: Go to the game’s scripts subfolder
You should now see the Roaming folder if you followed the previous step. Double-click on the subfolder named The Creative Assembly. Follow the pathway below until you’re inside the scripts subfolder of Total War: WARHAMMER III.
C:\Users\[your PC name]\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\scripts\
STEP 3: Edit the Preferences text file
- Look for a file named preferences.script.txt and open it with Notepad
- Find (Ctrl+F) the line that contains this command: default_battle_camera_type 0
- Change the value from 0 to 2
The line should look like this after you made the change:
default_battle_camera_type 2; # default_battle_camera <card32>, default battle camera: 0-totalwar 1-rts 2-debug 3-cinematic 4-arena #
STEP 4: Save and launch the game
Save your changes to the preferences.script.txt file and close it. Now play Total War WARHAMMER III on a map with bridges—like Nan-Gau—and try to zoom in under the bridge. The camera will now stay underneath instead of flying above the bridge. With no height limit, you can zoom in and out as much as you can as well.
However, changing the keyboard or camera settings during the battle will reactivate the default battle camera. If this happens, then just restart the battle or the game.
Total War WARHAMMER III is the third and final installment of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy of real-time strategy games. It was developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA for Windows PC on February 17, 2022. The Mac and Linux versions of the game will launch at a later date.
This game further improves upon its predecessors by adding new game modes and playable factions like the Daemons of Khorne, Grand Cathay, and the Tzeentch. The combined campaign map will be available in a future update for owners of all three Total War: WARHAMMER games.
