How to Separate Audio and Text Language in Dying Light 2 (PC)

Tired of listening to the awkwardly translated dialogue in Dying Light 2 Stay Human? This quick guide will teach you how to separate the default speech and text languages. The goal is to let you play the game with English audio and non-English subtitles.

STEP 1: Go to the game installation folder

Open the Dying Light 2 game directory and follow the path below.

Dying Light 2 > ph > work > data_lang

STEP 2: Delete your local speech data folder

There are two more folders inside data_lang. The first is speech_en, which is the data folder for English audio in Dying Light 2 Stay Human. The second folder is the one for your local language. Here is the list of languages that have full audio support in the game.

  • English = en
  • French = fr
  • German = de
  • Japanese = ja
  • Polish = pl
  • Portuguese = pt
  • Russian = ru
  • Simplified Chinese = zh
  • Spanish = es

Find your local language folder and delete it.

For example, if you want English audio but French subtitles, then delete speech_fr.

STEP 3: Launch Dying Light 2

Now you can enjoy the game without having to listen to the awkwardly translated phrases. Hopefully, Techland will release a future patch to fix this issue. Especially since the game heavily uses dialogue for its plot exposition.

Dying Light 2 continues the story 15 years after the first game.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is the sequel to Dying Light, the popular first-person zombie survival game released in 2015. The story is set 15 years after the first game, and players can once again enjoy parkour mechanics in a post-apocalyptic world. Dying Light 2 was released in February 3, 2022 for PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.

Check out this guide if you want to adjust the game’s FOV to your desired value.

  1. As soon as the folder for the local language is removed, there is no more audio in the game. Only subtitles. As of 22 February 2022, this way no longer works, which is a pity, because I wanted English voice output with subtitles in my language. This way only works in the intro before the actual start of the game and the main menu. From the tunnel, at the beginning of the game, no more voice output.
