How to Play the Dares of Eternity Lightning Round in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 kicks off Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Event with a new activity called Dares of Eternity. This article will discuss how you can get through the Lightning Round, an extra encounter in this activity that allows players to earn more rewards.

How to Unlock the Lightning Round

The game randomly decides if your fireteam is qualified to play Lightning Round in Dares of Eternity. The following factors do not affect the chances of unlocking this special encounter.

  • Earning a total of 200,000 points for the entire activity.
  • Defeating any of the final bosses quickly.
  • Completing the mini-obstacle course with no one in your fireteam falling to the bottom.
  • Guessing the correct door at the end of the second Dare encounter.

What we do know is that the Lightning Round always occurs after you defeat the final boss. A timer and a progress bar will show up on the left side of your HUD, similar to the normal Dares of Eternity encounters. Try to earn as many rewards as you can before the timer ends.

How to Play the Lightning Round

Here is a quick overview of everything that happens in this encounter.

Stage 1: Capture two zones

Capture two zones in the first stage of the Lightning Round in Destiny 2 Dares of Eternity.

Your fireteam should split in half to capture both zones faster. Heavy ammo crates will spawn from inside the zones, so stock up before they disappear. Dozens of Taken will spawn around the map, so make sure not to die often because there is a two-minute timer. If you complete this stage, your fireteam will receive one extra chest at the end of the activity. Otherwise, the Lightning Round will end.

Stage 2: Capture four zones

Capture four zones in the second stage of the Lightning Round in Destiny 2 Dares of Eternity.

This is similar to the first stage, except that there are four zones to capture instead of two. More powerful Taken enemies will also spawn, including Minotaurs and Ogres. Prepare yourself for Overload and Barrier Champions as well. Complete this entire stage in two minutes to get another extra chest.

Stage 3: Capture six zones and defeat the boss

Get ready for the final stage! Your fireteam must control all six zones on the map to complete the entire Lightning Round.

A giant Taken Ogre called the Paracausal Contestant will also spawn, so unload all your Supers and heavy ammo on this final boss. Once you accomplish all the objectives, enjoy a total of three extra chests on top of the normal rewards from Dares of Eternity.

Special Guest Scar Triumph

Keep an eye on the bottom-right corner of your HUD during each stage of the Lightning Round. There you will be notified that Xur’s special contestant—a shiny, invisible Minotaur—has spawned. Kill three of them in separate Lightning Rounds to unlock the Special Guest Scar Triumph. Completing this Triumph will also give you the Ultra Plasmic Shader from Xur. Click on the 30th Anniversary Seal panel to claim this reward.

The Lightning Round is a great way to earn more loot, Treasure Keys, and Strange Coins during the Dares of Eternity activity. So make sure you pray to the RNG gods so that they will bless you with the opportunity to play this extra encounter!

Only those who own the Bungie 30th Anniversary DLC can play Dares of Eternity in Destiny 2. It will still be available even after the launch of Witch Queen since this DLC counts as an expansion pack and not a seasonal event.
