Forza Horizon 5 is the fifth installment to the popular racing video game series developed by Playground Games. It was published on November 9, 2021 by Xbox Game Studios for Microsoft Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
Just like its predecessors, Forza Horizon 5 will expand on the open-world racing genre that many players came to love. The game is set in the vast landscape of Mexico, and there will be dozens of racing tournaments that you can take part in. Whether you play solo, online, or co-op with a friend, Forza Horizon 5 gives you hundreds of vehicles to choose from.
While the game launched with minimal errors, there is a specific element that some players might find unpleasant. It’s not a bug or hidden piece of bloatware—it’s just a loud sound during the intro cutscene. Although the game’s 20 second intro cannot be skipped, you can at least mute the sound that comes with it. Those who used to own a PlayStation 2 know exactly what it’s like to be traumatized by unexpectedly loud intro sounds.
You can mute the intro sound of Forza Horizon 5 in just a few, easy steps.
Step 1: Find the install directory of Forza Horizon 5
If you bought the game on Steam, look for the directory in your steamapps folder. However, if you got the game directly from Microsoft, you can usually find it in the Microsoft Game Studios or Xbox Game Studios folder.
Step 2: Go to the Videos Folder
From the install directory, keep double-clicking the following folders: Media – UI – Videos
Step 3: Rename a specific file
Find the file “T10_MS_Combined.bk2“. This is the root of Forza Horizon 5’s loud intro sound. Simply rename this file to anything else you want. You can add or erase one or more letter if you want. Just remember not to rename it entirely in case you want to have the sound back in the future.
A good tip is to just add a few letters or numbers. You can try “T10_MS_Combinedx.bk2″ or “T10_MS_Combined0.bk2″.
Step 4: Play Forza Horizon 5
If you follow these steps correctly, then your game will no longer play the intro sound the next time you boot it up. Buckle in and enjoy the ride.
